What are Pre-surgical Psychological Evaluations?
Pre-surgical psychological evaluations are conducted to determine a patient's psychological readiness for surgery and promote safer and more successful surgical experiences. These evaluations are designed to identify psychological factors that may influence surgical outcomes, post-operative recovery, and long-term success of the procedure.
Pre-surgical psychological evaluations involve between 2 to 4 hours of direct evaluation. The evaluation consists of a structured and semi-structured clinical interview, as well psychometric (e.g., self-report) measures to assess a variety of relevant variables.
After the assessment, Dr. Young will provide a detailed report to the patient and the patient's physician, including their findings, identification of any risk factors, recommendations for pre- or post-surgical psychological support, and strategies to mitigate potential barriers. Dr. Young will also complete a one-on-one feedback session with the patient to review the report content and recommendations, as well as to answer any questions the patient might have.
