Meet Dr. Kevin C. Young
Thank you very much for your interest in MOAT and for taking the time to review my profile! I presently serve as a licensed psychologist at MOAT and hold a clinical faculty position at George Mason University, teaching and supervising clinical psychology doctorate students. I sincerely hope to have the opportunity to work alongside you to accomplish your goals and attain the relief that you are seeking. Together, we will use science-based therapeutic techniques to build skills and reclaim your life.
I completed my undergraduate degree in Psychology at the University of Maryland, going on to earn my Ph.D. in clinical psychology from George Mason University. During my doctoral education, I completed a clinical externship at the Behavior Therapy Center of Greater Washington, obtaining specialized training in exposure-based treatment. I also received targeted training in comprehensive psychodiagnostic and psychoeducational assessment, completing a formal, year-long assessment practicum at the George Mason University Center for Psychological Services. I next completed my predoctoral internship and postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Kansas Medical Center, where I served multiple professional roles, delivering outpatient and inpatient psychotherapeutic care, serving on the multidisciplinary consult-liaison psychiatry service, providing therapeutic support and assessment services to the oncology, primary care, trauma unit, and solid organ transplant teams, teaching medical students, and supervising the clinical work of medical students, psychology interns, and psychiatry residents. Following postdoctoral fellowship, I was hired as a staff psychologist at the Behavior Therapy Center of Greater Washington. There, I also served as the Co-Director of Training, instructing and supervising extern-level clinicians.
My clinical interests include working with adults and adolescents experiencing a variety of behavioral and emotional concerns, including obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), anxiety disorders, hoarding disorder, posttraumatic stress disorder, depression, ADHD, and personality disorders, as well as adjustment to and coping with co-occurring health-related concerns, such as cancer, diabetes, and chronic pain. I have considerable experience conducting comprehensive psychodiagnostic assessments for adults, adolescents, and children with a wide array of presenting concerns, as well as conducting psychological evaluations for medical intervention clearance. Due to the ongoing pandemic, I currently am only offering psychotherapy and appropriate psychodiagnostic assessments via telehealth.
I have also delivered numerous domestic and international seminars and workshops on a variety of clinical and positive psychology topics, published frequently in peer-reviewed academic journals, and possess experience consulting for a variety of organizations, including Google and National Geographic. I am available to deliver consultation and invited talks upon request.
Most of my spare time is spent going on adventures with my family, cheering for the Kansas City Chiefs and Kansas City Royals, consuming live music, and playing the drums. Before becoming a psychologist, I was a touring musician, and I will always look for any excuse to jam with fellow musicians (like Dr. Lent and Dr. Yood).
I am licensed in Maryland and Virginia and possess permission through PSYPACT to also practice telehealth in Washington D.C.. and other participating states.
