Meet Dr. Michael A. Lent
Welcome to M.O.A.T.! I look forward to working with you to conquer the limitations anxiety has created in your life. In exposure therapy, we’ll do science-supported, evidence-based treatment that will help you achieve your goals and exceed your own expectations. I’ll also help you develop an understanding of how the treatment techniques and concepts work, so you can use your new skills throughout your whole life. Exposure therapy can be challenging, but I’ll support you through it with compassion and a good sense of humor.
Some people are lucky enough to do work they truly love, and I am one of them! Exposure therapy is both my profession and my passion. After graduating from the University of Maryland with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology, I volunteered on Sheppard Pratt’s adult crisis stabilization unit before continuing my education to earn my doctorate. I earned my PhD in Clinical Psychology from Hofstra University in Long Island, New York. During my PhD program, I gained years of specialized training in exposure-based therapies, through work in settings such as the Northwell Health OCD Center and Hofstra University’s Phobia and Trauma Clinic. I returned to Maryland for a pre-doctoral internship with Johns Hopkins University’s student counseling center. At Johns Hopkins University, I engaged in a year-long program focused on diversity and inclusion in therapy. I completed my postdoctoral fellowship at the Behavior Therapy Center of Greater Washington (BTC), where I was hired on as a staff psychologist and continued to work for another three years. In my current practice, I specialize in Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT).
When I’m not helping people do the things that scare them, I enjoy playing retro video games, reading comics and science-fiction, and watching geeky TV shows. My other hobbies include creating custom t-shirts, learning Japanese, and playing bass guitar in a band with my colleagues, Dr. David Yood and Dr. Kevin Young.
I am a licensed psychologist in Maryland, with permission through PSYPACT to also practice telehealth in participating states, including Washington D.C. and Virginia.
