Meet Sara Young, MSW, LCSW-C

Hi! I am a licensed clinical social worker specializing in anxiety disorders with children, adolescents, and young adults, and would be honored to be a part of your healing journey.

My approach to treatment is consistently informed by evidence-based practices; we will use effective, science-backed techniques to address your concerns and improve your well-being. Your trust and buy-in for this work is invaluable –  I will be sure to provide education on these interventions both before we start and along the way, along with warmth, guidance, and a sense of humor to push through some of our work’s more uncomfortable moments.

I received my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from University of Delaware and Master of Social Work from the University of Maryland in Baltimore. During my graduate studies, I gravitated towards working with children who had experienced traumatic situations, and subsequently began my professional career working with youth at risk of being placed outside of the home who –more often than not– had significant anxiety disorders. While living in Northern Virginia, I supervised a group of clinicians providing intervention for children in the school setting, completed psychodiagnostic assessments, conducted regular community mental health education seminars, and delivered outpatient care. After a relocation to the Midwest, I accepted the role of Center Mental Health Consultant for the Job Corps Campus in Excelsior Springs, where I provided assessment and brief outpatient services for the teens and young adults enrolled, developed and led staff training and student educational series, and fulfilled the Social Work Cycle by becoming a Field Instructor. I also provided pro-bono services to children and families as a member of the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children’s Family Advocacy Outreach Network, and had the privilege of working closely with the Kansas City Police Department Mounted Patrol for therapeutic purposes.

My preferred modalities include Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT). I am currently available for telehealth appointments for those residing in Maryland.

In my free time, I enjoy embellishing plot holes in terrible horror movies with my husband, practicing great restraint while playing video games with my daughter, and simultaneously finding both peace and aggravation in my ever-burgeoning plant collection.
